Context Switching

Context switching is when we shift our attention between different tasks, apps, or projects [1].

TIP

You can reduce context switching by limiting the number of things you have in progress, blocking off some amount of time to work on a specific task, and turning off notifications. Use out of office automatic replies, "do not disturb", or IM statuses and close your door to communicate to others that you are focusing.

TIP

You can reduce the impact of context switching by brain dumping your current thoughts and next steps into your notes so you can pick up where you left off more easily. This can also be great to do before lunch or at the end of the day.
