Computer Recommendations

This guide is meant for people that do not work in tech and are looking for advice on purchasing a computer.

In my opinion, computer specs matter more than the brand of the device.

Here are some things to consider:

Storage

  • Prefer NVMe M.2 SSD over SATA SSD or HDD
    • Increases speed
  • Prefer 1TB of storage
    • Increases storage capacity for apps, pictures, and videos

Memory

  • Prefer at least 16GB of RAM
    • Increases speed and ability to multitask

Processor

  • Prefer an i7 or higher CPU
    • Increases speed and ability to multitask

Display/Graphics

  • Prefer a high refresh rate monitor for smoother visuals, 75Hz or higher
    • Increases smoothness and reduces motion blur
  • Prefer a higher resolution monitor for clearer visuals, 1440p or higher
    • Increases clarity and detail
  • Prefer dedicated over integrated graphics
    • Increases performance for graphics-intensive tasks like photo editing and video rendering

Monitor

  • Prefer multiple port options (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C)
    • Gives you options for connecting different devices and using different types of cables
  • Consider VESA mount compatibility
    • Gives you options for mounting on a different monitor stand, arm, or wall

Accessories

  • Consider a USB-C hub or docking station
    • Allows you to connect your laptop to multiple peripherals with a single connection
    • Allows you to connect multiple devices, such as a permanent desktop computer and laptop, or a personal and work laptop, to the same peripherals

TIP

If you decide to buy a Mac directly from Apple, they offer 3% cashback and 0% interest payments for 2 years when using their Apple Card [1].

TIP

Consider buying used from Back Market [2].
